He talks the way he played.

Direct, prepared, and without the polish that makes a story easy to ignore. Mario tells young people what the road actually looked like, then hands them something they can use before the week is over.

Why him

A story students
cannot argue with.

Mario was not a prospect. He walked on at Georgia Tech, was named team captain there in 2005 to 2006, won the NCAA Slam Dunk Championship in 2007, worked his way to the Harlem Globetrotters, and ended up guarding Kobe Bryant and LeBron James for the Atlanta Hawks. Nothing in that sentence happened because of natural advantage.

That matters in a gym full of teenagers, because most of them already know they are not the most gifted person in their grade. What they have never been told is that the most gifted person rarely wins the long game. The most prepared one does.

Mario spends his talks proving that with specifics: what he did at five in the morning, how he handled being cut, what he told himself after rejection, and where his faith fit into all of it.

Signature talks

What he speaks about

Every talk is shaped around your audience and the outcome you want. These are the six he is asked for most.

01

The Ultimate Playbook

The signature keynote. A dream is a gift, but gifts get tested. This talk walks through the six pillars Mario used to protect his own, and how a student can start using them this week.

02

The walk on mindset

What to do when you are not the favorite, not the pick, and not in the plan. How to build value where you actually are instead of waiting for a better situation to arrive.

03

Defense wins

A team culture talk for athletic programs and companies. Why the unglamorous roles decide outcomes, and how to build a group where the hard jobs get real status.

04

Faith and the long middle

For churches, chapels, and youth ministry. Praying for a promise while preparing for the work, and staying faithful during the years when nothing visible is happening yet.

05

From concrete to bloom

The elementary version, built around his picture book A Dream Defended. A read aloud, a short talk, and a simple message about growing in difficult conditions.

06

After the rejection

Being cut, overlooked, and counted out, and what Mario did in the days after each one. A practical talk about recovering quickly and reading a no correctly.

Formats

Pick the shape that fits your day

Most events land in one of these five. If yours does not, say so in the inquiry and Mario will build something around it.

  • Keynote. Thirty to sixty minutes for a full audience, with time for questions at the end.
  • School assembly. A single grade band or a whole school, sized to your bell schedule.
  • Workshop. Ninety minutes or a half day, working through the six pillars with exercises.
  • Author visit. A read aloud of A Dream Defended for younger students, plus a short talk and signing.
  • Camp or clinic. On court skill work paired with a message, for youth basketball programs.
How it works

Four steps, no mystery

01

Send the details

Date, location, audience, group size, and what you want them to leave with. The contact form takes about two minutes.

02

Talk it through

A short email exchange, and a call once a time is set, to confirm the fit, the format, the schedule, and the fee, including travel if the event is outside metro Atlanta.

03

Lock the date

You get written confirmation with the agreed details, the run of show, and anything Mario needs on site, such as a microphone or a screen.

04

Event day

Mario arrives early, meets your team, delivers the talk, and stays afterward for questions, photos, and book signing when books are part of the order.

Questions

Before you send the inquiry

Anything not covered here, just ask in the form. Straight answers come back fast.

Four to eight weeks is comfortable for most school and church events, and busy months such as August, January, and May fill earlier. If your date is closer than that, still ask, because cancellations and open windows happen more often than people expect.

The fee depends on the format, the length of the day, the size of the audience, and travel. Mario quotes each event individually, and he works with schools and nonprofit programs on budget when the mission lines up. Send your details and you will get a specific number, not a range.

Yes. Mario is based in metro Atlanta and travels nationally for events. Travel and lodging are added to the quote for anything outside driving distance, and he will tell you exactly what that adds before you commit.

Yes, and most schools do. Both books come in sets of fifteen and twenty five copies, and A Dream Defended works well for elementary audiences. Order them with the event and Mario will sign copies on site.

Mario's faith is central to his own story and he says so plainly. For church and ministry events the talk leans fully into it. For public schools and corporate audiences he keeps the message on preparation, perseverance, and character, and tells his story without preaching. Tell him which version you need.

Often the small rooms are the best ones. Team meetings, advisory classes, mentoring cohorts, and leadership groups all get the same preparation as a full auditorium, with more time for real conversation.

Tell him who is in the room.

Share the date, the audience, and the outcome you are after. You will get availability and a price back quickly.
